Robert works for the European Commission, Directorate-General for Energy, as deputy Head of Unit for energy efficiency policy and financing.  In this capacity, he has joint responsibility for implementing the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Energy Efficiency First principle, and for scaling up financial support for energy efficiency measures across the EU.  Before becoming deputy Head of Unit, he was responsible for the implementation of ecodesign and energy labelling policy, and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. He started his career in the European Commission as a policy officer in the Directorate-General for Environment where he was involved in developing integrated product policy and the European Eco-label. Subsequently, he worked for the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers in the area of product safety. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Nuij worked as a senior consultant for an international environmental consultancy with an emphasis on environmental product policy, eco-design and waste management. Mr. Nuij holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology.
