The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy is a global alliance of cities and local governments with a shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move to a low-carbon, resilient society. Andy had been GCoM’s Director of Strategy and Operation, in particular supporting work on finance and investment and research and innovation. Since May 2021 he has taken up anew role as acting Managing Director and will guide development of GCoM’s updated strategic plan as well as continuing to support its initiatives.
Immediately prior to his roles with the Global Covenant, Andy was Policy Coordinator for Climate Alliance, where among other projects, he was project technical coordinator for the series of EU Sustainable Energy Investment Forums. Andy has worked for 20 years across arrange of environmental protection issues focusing on climate change, energy and air quality in local, regional and central government, academia and the third sector. He has been part of and led major initiatives on city carbon reduction strategies, community energy, large-scale home retrofit financing and household energy saving behaviour. Andy has a BSc in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Surrey Roehampton Institute and an MSc in Applied Meteorology and Climatology from the University of Birmingham.
